ANALYSIS: Breaking down Canada's 2022 FIFA World Cup group fate

OneSoccer Staff
Canada NT

The Canadian men’s national team at last knows which teams it will be playing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, after the group stage draw was conducted from Doha, Qatar on Friday.

In their first men’s World Cup since 1986, Canada will be in Group F, which means they’ll play Belgium (currently ranked second in the world), Croatia (16th), and Morocco (24th). With the schedule already set, Canada will know the order in which they’ll take on those opponents during the group stage.

Canada’s opening match in Qatar will be on November 23, 2022 against Belgium. Following that, they’ll take on Croatia on November 27, and then finally Morocco on December 1. Should Canada manage to advance from the group to the knockout stage, they’d be in the bracket alongside Group E, taking on one of Spain, Germany, Japan, or the winner of an intercontinental playoff between Costa Rica and New Zealand.

The other seven groups are listed below. The other two direct qualifiers from Concacaf also know their fate now; the United States are in Group B with England, Iran, and the European playoff winner (Wales, Scotland, or Ukraine), and Mexico will take on Argentina, Saudi Arabia, and Poland.
