Hunter, Jourde get first call-ups as CanWNT name squad for October friendlies

On Monday, the Canadian women's national team announced its squad for a pair of friendlies in Europe against Switzerland and the Netherlands. 

Casey Stoney named a 24-player group, who will take on the 24th-ranked Swiss in Lucerne on Friday, October 24 (1:30 p.m. ET / 10:30 a.m. PT), before travelling to Nijmegen in the Netherlands to clash with the 11th-ranked Dutch on Tuesday, October 28 (3:45 p.m. ET / 12:45 p.m. PT). Both matches will be available live on OneSoccer. 

Three players in the squad received their first-ever call-ups for Canada at the senior level.  AFC Toronto leading goalscorer Kaylee Hunter, 17, and Florianne Jourde, 20, of Paris St-Germain are exciting new additions after strong careers with the youth national teams. Emily Burns, meanwhile, a 28-year-old goalkeeper for Nantes in France, is also a first-time call-up. 

Bay FC full-back Sydney Collins receives her first call-up since 2023 after recovering from injury. Stoney's squad is without several notable names due to injury, however, Kadeisha Buchanan, Vanessa Gilles and Lysianne Proulx were all unavailable as a result. Annabelle Chukwu and Kayla Briggs were unavailable due to mutual agreement with their respective collegiate teams. 

This is Canada's first action since July 2, when they were defeated 3-0 by the United States in Washington, D.C.
